Sharing the dream of entrepreneurship with my local high school

This morning I was given the opportunity to speak to Richfield High School’s DECA club. One dozen kids in the room, a business teacher, and 20 minutes to answer questions and share my education and career experiences.  Very rarely do I fully look back to what I’ve learn since post-secendary. Since then I’ve completed 5 years of college, earned additional certifications and training and the last 5 years I’ve attended the Urban Fitness business school of hard knocks!
Here’s a bit of the wisdom I hoped to impart on them.’

  1. a) Your educational path to a career you fully enjoy might look like this.

  1. b)  The important thing is that if you never quit, you’ll eventually move closer to your goal. Clients, I’m guessing this chart looks slightly familiar!

2.  Understand if your business can scale or if it’s solely your project.
3.  Solo entrepreneurship can feel lonely. Find friends in business you can ask questions of.
4.  Recognize when you’re simply burned out! It’s hard to run on all cylinders all the time.  Change something so as not to stay there for long.
What a great way to start my morning, with hungry minds who came to school for Zero hour and to hear me speak.
In the below picture I’m slightly terrified 3 minutes prior to start…maybe it’s just the nerves of being in a high school, seeking acceptance! Thanks for your great attention DECA attendees and to Jose Olalde and Mr. Dean Breuer.
