How to properly engage your abs

Get the most out of your ab work!
We all know how important core work is but do you know that how you engage your abs is equally important? You can build your ab muscles in two different ways. The way we usually engage our abs builds the center, outer abs more than the underneath abs and it tends to build them out making our stomachs more round looking.
Building your abs the way our Pilates instructor, Kaethe, suggests gives you these benefits:

  • You are working all your abs, including the more difficult to find ones, not just the center ones.
  • You build a flatter and leaner looking set of ab muscles.
  • You connect your abs to your hip bones allowing for more hip control.
  • You provide more support for your spine and back muscles (thus reducing a lot of back pain).

This way of engaging your abs can be done in all kinds of ab exercises or just while sitting at your desk! Learn how by watching our video.
